-Advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth-
As an educational leader, it’s important to facilitate focus when implementing change among staff members. I made a focus circle as a way to represent an activity we could do as an entire staff before fully taking on data teams in our school. I included this piece in my portfolio as evidence of my commitment to embrace change and assist my fellow colleagues in improving our school with a clear focus. As an instructional leader, I will continue to nurture and advocate for a school culture and instructional program that encourages student learning and staff professional growth.
During the 2014-2015 school year I facilitated a school improvement project with the other Special Education teachers at Eastridge Elementary. Careful analysis of classroom data based on a group of students in second through fifth grade who receive special education services for reading revealed a significant need for additional intervention and support for reading comprehension and writing. With new higher standards and a rigorous curriculum, these students are at risk for continuing to fall below grade level and not meet district standards. Through our collaborative work together, I created this checklist for students as a way to support their progress with independently writing a constructive response in reading.

A large portion of my summer 2014 internship was spent deepening my understanding of Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports (PBiS) through workshop training and professional reading. After working with a small school team on creating an action plan, I took on the job of writing school wide lesson plans which were used in our implementation in August of 2014. I have included the table of contents as evidence of both my instructional and strategic leadership. I have worked hard to facilitate the development and implementation of a vision of learning that will promote success of all students that will be shared by the school community. It also shows my active participation with the design and implementation utilizing researched based practices. |
As an extension of my learning about Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBiS), I created a variety of visuals that are displayed in my current school. I included this artifact as a visual for the instructional leadership I was able to utilize. This leadership experience has allowed me to facilitate the development and implementation of a new vision for my school that will help all students be successful. |
