-Collaborating with families and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, mobilizing community resources and by understanding, responding to, and influencing the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context-
As part of developing our Education Leadership beliefs, we did what was called a values tournament. It forced me to reflect on characteristics and actions that I valued most in not only my personal life but also my professional life. I created this 'wordle' to display the outcome of the activity and chose to incorporate it because it highlights the process I have taken to form my beliefs and values. These beliefs and values are what will guide me throughout my leadership in education. This process is important in my development of Community/Political Leadership as it will remind me to approach situations with compassion, valuing ethical action in the educational community, and forming collaborative relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.

The two artifacts displayed here were created for our Family Wellness Night that I helped plan and organize along with the School Wellness Committee. The event was attended by 309 students and family members with 34 vendors from within our community sharing health and wellness information. I included these artifacts as evidence of my Community/Political Leadership through collaboratively working with community agencies to integrate health, social, and other services for families.

Through class discussions and reading ‘Shaping School Culture’ by Terrence E. Deal, I have realized just how important the school’s mission, rituals, ceremonies, and traditions are. I created this Eagle 'Wordle' using our school's mission statement, daily chant, and school rules as a way to display the values and beliefs of our school community. This artifact is evidence of Community/Political Leadership through its presence on the school’s website. It gives us a way to communicate our ethics and attitude towards learning with our community members. |
I did not personally create this invitation but am currently an active member in planning for our upcoming '60 Soaring Years Celebration'. My role in the planning process has been community outreach through sending invitations to every elementary, middle, and high school, school board members, administrators at the District Office, and Senator Patty Pansing-Brooks. This work with the planning committee is evidence of Community/Political Leadership as this celebration will be a way for our neighborhood community to celebrate 60 years of excellence in education. |
I have come to realize that a strong leader recognizes the work and effort of others to help students grow and succeed. I’m no longer just focused on what I’m doing to help students… but am now also focused on what others are doing around me and within my school community. These personal thank-you notes were written to the paraprofessionals who work very closely with students on my caseload. This artifact demonstrates a sense of Community/Political leadership by influencing the cultural context of our building and by forming collaborative relationships. |
